List of the 39 MPs who never spoke on the floor of parliament in 2019
A list of the 39 MPs who never spoke on the floor of parliament in 2019 has been released by TheGhanareport portal.
The portal’s investigative team combed through 125 hansards of 2019 over a three-week period and presents its findings.
Parliamentarians in Ghana like in any other jurisdiction are defined as lawmakers or legislators. They coordinate with the executive in making laws.
In Ghana’s political landscape, parliamentarians give numerous developmental promises when they are campaigning to their constituents just for votes. This puts the people in their constituencies on a high radar of expectations but immediately they win power and enter the parliament hardly can you even set an eye on them.
Most parliamentary sittings are aired on the National broadcasting network GBC and debates are recorded in the parliamentary hazards for future references.
The release of this list has revealed all our parliamentarians who did not verbally contribute to discussions on the floor of the August House throughout the year 2019.
Most of these parliamentarians have stayed in the parliament house for more than a term, so it’s quite surprising why they don’t get engaged in the parliamentary debates peculiar to ensuring the development of the country and for which purpose their constituents voted for them. Although this list does not confirm their contributions at the various committee levels, it does raises concerns about their competence and willingness to serve their roles.
